What will we be doing in social studies 7?
In social studies this year we will begin by catching up on the current events of the summer, honoring the anniversary of 9/11, and observing one of our country's documents on Constitution Day. We then move on to studying the different groups of homosapiens and the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Greece, India, China, Rome, and Egypt. You will be reading, writing, taking notes, and keeping up with the current news of our country and the world. It should be a very enlightening fall with the current events taking place in our country and abroad! (We will also be hitting some economics near the holidays.)
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS: Students will be informed of an upcoming assessment at least one week in advance. They will also be given materials to help review for the assessment. In the event that a student did not perform as well as s/he would have liked, and the situation, re-takes/test corrections may be offered. However, the student must have completed all formative assignments for the unit before the original summative assessment is given It is important to note that an assessment is not limited to a 'test' but may include a writing piece, a project, a presentation, or another culminating item.
Assignments are weighted 80% summative and 20% formative. |
